Questions people ask

What is the mobile money levy?

A government levy on mobile money transactions, collected by the networks for ZRA: K0.32 on up to K150, rising to K10 above K10,000. It applies to sending money, paying bills and shops, government payments and bank-to-wallet transfers, but not to cashing out.

Why are some network fees missing?

MTN does not publish its MoMo fees online, and Airtel publishes only its cash-out fees. The fee shows on your phone before you confirm: dial *303# on MTN or *115# on Airtel. We only show fees a network has published.

Is it cheaper to send to the same network?

Usually. On Zamtel, sending K500 to another Zamtel number costs K1.00 plus the K0.80 levy; to another network or a bank it costs K10.00 plus the levy.

Is receiving money free?

Yes, receiving and depositing money are free on all three networks. Cashing out at an agent is charged.
