How is simple interest calculated?
Interest = amount × rate × time. K10,000 at 20% a year for 6 months: 10,000 × 20% × 0.5 = K1,000, so K11,000 in total.
Simple or compound interest?
Simple interest is only on the amount you started with. Compound interest is also on interest already added, so it grows faster: the savings calculator works that way.
How are days counted?
As a share of a 365-day year: 90 days at 20% a year is 20% × 90/365 = 4.93%.
What does a rate "a month" mean in a year?
A rate a month times 12, with simple interest: 5% a month is 60% a year. Loans quoted per month cost far more than they sound.
