Questions people ask

What is compound interest?

Interest on your interest. Each month the interest is added to your balance, so next month you earn interest on a bigger amount. Over many years this makes a large difference.

What does "worth after inflation" mean?

Prices rise over time, so money buys less. We divide the final balance by how much prices will have risen (at the inflation rate shown) to give its value in today's money. If your interest rate is below inflation, your savings are shrinking in real terms.

Is tax taken into account?

No. Interest may be taxed (in Zambia, bank interest for individuals is taxed at source). Lower the interest rate to allow for it.
