Questions people ask

How is the monthly repayment worked out?

With equal monthly payments (an amortised loan), the usual way banks lend. Early payments are mostly interest; later ones mostly pay off the loan, as the yearly table shows.

Why should I include the fee?

Many lenders charge an arrangement or insurance fee as a percentage of the loan. It is part of what the loan costs you, so two offers with the same interest rate can cost very different amounts.

Is the rate monthly or yearly?

Either: choose "a year" or "a month" next to the rate. Banks usually quote a yearly rate; short-term lenders and microloans often quote a monthly one, which is much more expensive than it sounds: 10% a month is 120% a year.

How do I work out a one-month loan?

Set the months to 1 and pick "a month" if the lender quotes a monthly rate. K20,000 at 30% a month is K26,000 to repay at the end of the month: K6,000 of interest.
